On Tuesday night, February 17th, a beautiful Beagle named Miss P won the 139th Annual Westminster Kennel Club’s Dog Show’s top prize, Best in Show, at Madison Square Garden. This Beagle is a 15-inch, 4-year-old pup from British Colombia. She was picked top dog out of a group of seven hounds total, including the crowd-favorite Old English Sheepdog named Swagger and Charlie, the Skye Terrier that walked away with the Reserve Best in Show honors for runner-up. Matisse, the cousin of President Obama’s Portuguese Water Dog, was also in thrown into the kibble mix. For the third consecutive year, Matisse won the “working group” category.
“She never let me down,” Miss P’s handler, Will Alexander said. “She didn’t make any mistakes. She was wonderful out there.” He continued,“I’m sure she’s hungry. I’m overwhelmed.”
However, Miss P is no newbie. She is a seasoned competitor, competing once previous at Westminster. She is the second Beagle to ever win at Westminster. Shockingly enough, she did not let out a peep while in the ring. Showing them how it’s done, Miss P made it eminent that this wasn’t her first time in the doggy do or die. This is her 20th career Best in Show prize, formerly known as “Ch Tashtins Looking For Trouble.” What a name! Her owners, Eddie Dziuk and Lori and Kaitlyn Crandlemire of Enderby, plan to retire her from competition after Tuesday’s big win. The poor pooch needs a rest!
Lori Crandlemire reveals, “I’m speechless.”
An exciting life of appearances is what’s next for this prize-winning pooch. Miss P will enjoy a sumptuous steak dinner, a meeting with Donald Trump, and a walk-on role in Kinky Boots on Broadway.
It isn’t a secret that the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is no stranger to breeders. In a dog eat dog world, it is always nice to adopt the hounds that need a home.
