When it comes to Animal Rights. A big supporter of groups like International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), the Amanda Foundation, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and the Sea Shepherd, Kristin Bauer, best known for her role as Pam on HBO’s hit series True Blood, loves life in all of its forms, and is committed to spreading that love across the globe.
That’s why Kristin is teaming up with her fans over at Trueblood-Online.com to host an auction benefitting IFAW. The 7 day auction will take place via eBay where Kristin’s fans will bid to win a 15 minute Skype date with the woman behind Vampyric Vixen, Pam. And if your fingers can’t click as quickly as the dancers can gyrate at Fangtasia, don’t lose hope! Kristin and Trueblood-Online have two more auctions planned for the coming months where fans will have a chance to get their hands on Kristin’s dress from the season 3 premiere or a signed photo with a hand written note.
While she admits to having purchased purebred pets in the past, she believes that they are prone to health issues, and prefers to adopt rescues instead. Pining that, “These guys are so much more appreciative, and generally are better off genetically than their pure bred counterparts”. Acting as proof of her epiphany are Kristin’s 2 dogs and 3; all from local shelters.
Her dogs are named Asher and Ozmond, nicknamed “Oz”. Oz is a Heinz-57 mixed breed from a rescue litter, that Kristin just didn’t have the heart to leave behind. He was the only one of the litter that didn’t get adopted that day, so she decided to take this lonesome pup home that night, and make it legal. Having just lost a pure bred dog to bone cancer, she wasn’t sure if it was the perfect time to adopt but looking back; it was pawfect for both of them.
While Oz’s original name stuck, her other child came with the name Max. That didn’t seem to fit this dignified Rottweiler mix very well, so Kristin and her husband; Abri Van Straten changed his name to Asher. Having grown up on the street, Asher is a very composed, gentle soul. Oz on the other hand, still gets a little car sick, so he doesn’t get out much. When he does, he hasn’t quite learned how to behave, so he keeps the homestead happy while everyone is gone.
Kristin also decided to liven up her home a bit by adding 2 new cats last week that she hopes will keep her Bengal tiger cat Scrappy, happy. Also a rescue cat, Scrappy lived up to his name, and was a real handful when he was first brought into Kristin’s home, but if her performance as Pam is any indication of her prowess, it should come as no surprise to learn that she had this kitty calmed down in no time!
Her 2 new kittens came from a local pet shelter that hand feeds their rescues. They don’t have names yet, but they are considering Samuel and Isabel at the moment. Time will tell what fits best, and which ones they prefer.
One of Kristin’s pet peeves is eating well. Her family only eats the best, so you can be sure nobody is eating kibble. Her boys and girls all eat the same food Abri eats, just like one, big, happy family. Only real, raw food like free range, hormone free meats will do in Kristin’s kitchen.
