The style guru shares his love for fashion and his furry friends
Adam Lippes can best be described as a wunderkind of the fashion world. It’s no secret that he has earned his place, at a young age, on the coveted runway. Born in Buffalo, New York in 1972, Lippes graduated from Cornell University, and then continued his studies at the American University in Paris – where he focused on art history and architecture.
In 1995 Lippes moved in New York City, and began his fashion career at Polo Ralph Lauren before moving to Oscar de la Renta, where he was quickly promoted to global creative director, becoming one of the youngest to hold this position in the luxury fashion world.
As a result of these early successes, his business has evolved into a full sportswear collection for men and women, now known simply as ADAM. Adam has a passion for pets and animal rescue. “I grew up with Standard Poddles and stray dogs my whole life and anything that showed up at our house my mother graciously brought in,” he says.
When he moved to New York he became infatuated with Labradoodles, and quickly acquired Bido, named after a Brazilian cartoon character. In the following year Lola was added to the family. “Labradoodles are the seeing-eye dogs of Australia and have been bred there for decades. I knew that this was the breed for me, and they’ve been in my life for the last seven years,” he proudly boasts.
His fashion line has also been inspired to include an eclectic addition of a variety of animal patterns, and he has an eye on designing a line specifically for dogs. “We use animal prints all of the time in our designs. We recently used prints of little dogs, squirrels, and a classic cheetah pattern. Designing for dogs is on the list of the things I want to do soon. The line will be named Bidu and Lola, of course,” says Lippes.
Lippes is an avid supporter and contributor to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, as well the Humane Society of New York.
