Ellen DeGeneres and her spouse, Portia de Rossi, are in puppy love not only with each other, but with all the pets running around their house! They have two dogs and three cats in their Santa Barbara home: a Maltipoo named Wolf, a standard Poodle named Mabel, and cats Charlie, George, and Chairman.
DeGeneres’s pets are definitely in a loving home. In a letter addressed to pet-owners, DeGeneres states, “One of the things I really believe is that if you’re going to have pets you should treat them like you’d treat yourself. I don’t mean you should treat them to new shoes or a fancy car – I’m talking about the basics; a nice bed, fun toys and good food.”
This 11-time Emmy Award winner is known for her stand-up comedy act as well as her roles in several movies. Her role as the voice of Dory in the Pixar’s hit animated film “Finding Nemo” especially highlighted her love on animals. DeGeneres has always been an animal lover; as a child, she wanted to become a veterinarian and spend all of her time working with animals.
Besides being a successful TV talks how host, DeGeneres is also part-owner of the pet food company “Halo, Purely For Pets.” Halo is a natural dog and cat food company that also provides all kinds of pet supplies. DeGeneres first came across this company when she was looking for food for one of her dogs that was extremely allergenic.
In the animal world, DeGeneres is famous for her tearful plea on her talk show for the adopted dog, Iggy. The dog was forcibly removed from the home of her hairstylist because of an adoption technicality. DeGeneres has taken a lot of heat from the media about this sad adoption story, but she still remains an avid pet lover and takes every opportunity to rescue a pet in need. In fact, her dog Wolf was a rescue dog that she found on the streets. He had been smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico and was sadly abused by his owner at the time that DeGeneres found him.
With her enormous heart and affection for animals, DeGeneres immediately brought Wolf back home with her and officially adopted him as her pet. Despite the harsh ordeal that Wolf went through before DeGeneres came along, he is a happy, healthy Maltipoo and one of this year’s Most Eligible Pets.
