Animal Fair Magazine’s 3rd Annual Toys for Dogs Party and PSA shoot proved yet again that raising money during the holidays can be a howling good time! ‘Tis the season for giving, and animal lovers in New York City came out to donate toys to homeless dogs and have their pooches take a picture with Santa! Celebrity dog lovers also came out to support Toys for Dogs and shoot their portion of Animal Fair’s upcoming PSA, “We are Dogs United” debuting early next year to help raise awareness for animal rescue and adoption… Just in time for a new President and new, rescued First Dog in office. “Rescue is a local issue” states Wendy Diamond, Founder and Editorial Director of Animal Fair magazine and creator of Toys for Dogs. “We want to educate people about the many homeless dogs in their local shelters ready for adoption.” Celebrities supporting Toys for Dogs and appearing in the “We are Dogs United” PSA include, Abigail Breslin, Glenn Close, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Richard Belzer, Piper Perabo, Joy Behar, Sheri Sheppard, John O’Hurley, Al Roker, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Jill Zarin and many more.
Party goers and Toys for Dogs PSA supporters were dressed in their most festive attire and were happy to be a part of such a worthy cause. Wendy and Lucky Diamond were joined by Sundance Board of Directors Member, Steve Haft, Philanthropist Loreen Arbus, Socialite Jane Ponterelli, Dr. Babette Gladstein, and Designer Geoffrey Bradfield to toast this amazing PSA campaign that will help local animals everywhere. The party was filled with happy dogs waiting to get their photo with Santa. Some of the celebrity PSA participants joined in the fun and had their photos taken with Santa and made sure to whisper to Santa their last-minute Holiday gift request! “This event is always fun for both dogs and humans. Who doesn’t love Santa? I do! Even my half Jewish Maltese does, so why can’t we all just celebrate during the holidays, and remember what giving — and adopting — is all about?!” Diamond added.
Diamond’s event comes as a crucial time when an overwhelming number of pet owners are surrendering their animals to shelters because of the doghouse economy and the increase in home foreclosures. Shelter animals need our help now more than ever! Animal Fair launched Toys for Dogs, by putting donation boxes in various shelters and encouraging people to adopt while they donate this holiday season. Animal Fair Media has provided donation boxes at city shelters, including Animal Care and Control and the Humane Society of New York. Families can visit the shelter; kids can donate a dog toy and look at all the adorable animals up for adoption! There are too many animals being surrendered and during this season of giving this is a great way to promote goodwill towards all animals in need. “The economy is not just affecting people but unsuspecting innocent animals as well. Tons of people have surrendered their pets because they can no longer provide for them. Whether a dog was naughty or nice this year, every underdog deserves a home, love, care and toys! If we can donate toys to the needy, why not extend that generosity to the dogs that are left alone on Christmas day?” Diamond adds. “There’s no better gift than a loving pet!”
