Aimee Hyatt Introduces the “Red Hot Chili Puppies”, the “Canine Inch Nails” & “Nora Bones”
Don’t you love vintage Rock ‘n’ Roll t-shirts? Chances are, your pooch loves them, too! Passionate about music and an avid animal lover, designer Aimee Hyatt combined her two main interests, resulting in the K9 Rock line of Rock ‘n’ Roll t-shirts for dogs. Hyatt says she was inspired by her dog Shayna, a beautiful Cavalier King Charles: “Shayna went everywhere with me … I saw these wonderful retro Rock ‘n’ Roll tees for humans. When purchasing one for myself, I thought how great it would be if Shayna could have one.” Unable to find a tee to fit Shayna, Haytt decided to take the initiative and started designing. Unfortunately, Shayna passed away soon afterward, but Hyatt’s friends encouraged her to continue the project. She founded Shay
na Mania, the company behind K9s Rock. “It became cathartic for me to do this. It made me laugh.”
Hyatt’s Rock ‘n’ Roll shirts make many people laugh. Since she was unable to pay the licensing fees necessary to use original album art, she started coming up with parodies of rock artists and concerts. The concerts featured on Hyatt’s shirts advertise bands such as “Red Hot Chili Puppies,” “Bjark,” and the “Charlie Spaniels Band.”
Even rock star dogs know how stylish these shirts are. Hyatt’s t-shirts were part of the gift bags at the GRAMMY® awards for the past two years. When asked about celebrity pets, Hyatt said, “Megyn Price, who stars in the new show Rules of Engagement … she has the tees and sent me a photo of her doggie in it.” Hyatt also gave t-shirts to Elton John for his dog, Arthur.
Hyatt enjoys traveling with her pets, and takes Rosie, a Cavalier King Charles everywhere! She flew with Rosie to Montana for Thanksgiving: “You’re supposed to keep them in a bag under your seat – but the flight attendant so fell in love with her, along with the passengers sitting close by, that they let her sit on my lap.” She has also taken Rosie and Ruby (pictured) to Oregon, where the two greatly enjoyed romping in the snow. Hyatt recommends Carmel, California as her favorite animal-friendly city: “All the shop parents in Carmel put a bowl of water out front of their shops for the dogs, and many of the restaurants welcome them as well.”
