The Kips Bay Decorator Show House is considered to be the premier showcase of professional interior design. This event has grown tremendously, from a fundraiser benefiting a local Boys & Girls Club, to a must-see experience for industry professionals and thousands of design enthusiasts! Kips Bay has been setting the style, challenging its participants and inspiring visitors for thirty three years strong. The Show House has raised over $13,000,000 since launching in 1973 and all profits go directly to the 9,000 members of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. The Club provides essential after-school and enrichment programs for underprivileged children.
Michael Rosenberg is no stranger to breathtaking art. In business nineteen years, his firm is well-known for their clean, architectural type of interiors. Michael declares, “I love client interaction. We are a very small firm and have a great relationship with our clients. It’s all about service; it’s all about intimacy. One-on-one interaction is very important to us. Clients are only dealing with myself or my partner. They can talk to me whenever they want to, without going through four assistants. We work with many styles- traditional through contemporary. We have renovated apartments, homes, a private jet… you name it. I love the ability to be creative and work with all different mediums. You can create anything and everything you want! Most of our clients have dogs. We create luxurious environments, with sensitivity to the pets.”
Rosenberg has a Norwich terrier, Hattie. “Hattie is nine-years-old. I was raised with pets my whole life. I’ve always had dogs and cats. Hattie comes with me to the office every day. That is truly having a relationship with a pet. She’s part of the family. That’s the only way I will have a pet in the city. Hattie runs the roost. My assistants get on their hands and knees in the morning to say hello to her. She’s ready to kiss everyone. She can really put a spell over people! She definitely relates to people, not to other animals. She’ll take her paw and put it on your leg if she wants attention. She always wants to be touched. Where I go, if I can take her, I do. She flies with me, goes out to eat with me, to the Hamptons. She’s a very independent dog and loves her fruits and vegetables! That’s her treat.”
When work gets stressful, Hattie can be counted on to brighten up the mood. “She’s such an inspiration. When the day gets intense, she knows it. She’ll force you to deal with her. It calms me down. Once she knows you are calm, she’ll do her own thing. She really understands the energy within the office and nurtures you in that situation.” Michael paid homage to Hattie in his room at The Kips Bay Decorator Show House. “For Me and My Pooch– that was the name of our room. It was very luxurious- all about the person and their pet. A great place to hang out, very intimate, a best-friend type of feel. The color palette played off Hattie- she was my inspiration. The room was filled with creams, browns and blacks, just like her!”
