Adobe Guadalupe
Adobe Guadalupe, located in Guadalupe Valley near Ensenada, Mexico, consists of a working boutique winery, a bed and breakfast, and a horse stable owned by Tru and Donald Miller. Located seventy miles south of Tijuana, this sixty acres of vineyards is where they produce the grapes to create some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nebbiolo, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo and Shirazs. The vineyards were started in 1998 and had their first harvest in 2000 and they produces 5,000 cases a year.
Adobe Guadalupe has five Weimaraners’ that can be seen roaming the grounds and the guarding the bed and breakfast. Their names are Twente, nine-years-old, Jack, six-years-old, Gracie, three-years-old, Sol, five-years-old and Luna, six-years-old. “We have always liked Weimaraners and they are people friendly, are incredibly beautiful, nice and loving,” says Tru Miller.
“The Weimaraners specific job at the winery is to make sure that the people who come and visit us are nice people,” comments Tru Miller. The dogs presence at the winery usually acts as an ice breaker with the visitors and makes them feel at ease. Additionally, they keep rodents and birds away from the Bodega.
The dogs also help out around the house. Twente, Jack and Gracie are the guardians. Twente also goes to the local shops in the morning and barks at everybody on the way. Jack accompanies Mr. Miller to the Jacuzzi in order to protect him from any mishaps. Gracie goes horseback riding every day with the Millers. Sol and Luna defend the stables and horses.
Twente has been at the winery since 1998, when the winery was started, and is the alpha dog. He bosses the other dogs around. Jack came a half year later. Gracie, Sol and Luna were given as gifts throughout the past three years.
The dogs don’t have a favorite wine, but they like to sniff the red wines. They do however like the Rose wine in the summer months, because it is served very cold. The male dogs love all of the barrels because they use them as their bathroom and they enjoy hanging out in the Cave during wine tastings.
All the dogs love pig ears as their treats. The house dogs enjoy curling up at night in the house and the stable dogs prefer to run around in the vineyards. These animals are a wonderful addition to Adobe Guadalupe and bring a sense of family and feeling of home that can’t be denied.
