Her friends call her “Cat”, but her fans know her as the conniving Lindsay Rappaport on the popular ABC daytime drama, One Life To Live. Award-winning actress, Catherine Hickland set foot on the celebrity scene twenty-two years ago and hasn’t missed a step since. Prior to landing a permanent role on OLTL in 1998, Hickland’s other daytime soap appearances included Capitol, Texas, Loving, and The City, which earned her Soap Opera Update’s Best Actress Award in 1996. Hickland has also appeared on a variety of primetime programs with her most recent appearance on NBC’s drama series, Law & Order.
When it comes to creative expression, acting is “Cat’s” forte but with blush brush in hand, she’s a natural. Hickland worked as a professional make-up artist during her years as a struggling actress and now does her own make-up on the set of OLTL. She has spent the last two years developing a new Internet cosmetics line, Cat Cosmetics. The actress admits, “Even though I have enjoyed a wonderful acting career, I’ve never lost my passion for make-up and the wonderful things it can do to make us look better, feel better, and raise our self-esteem.” Hickland worked with a chemist in San Francisco and personally formulated many of the products, from the bronzers and blushers to the lipsticks and eye shadows. An ardent animal lover, it was also important to her that the line not be tested on animals, so her “guinea pigs” were her friends and fellow cast mates.
It has been the actress’ dream to create a beauty kit that could oblige women of all ages and types – from “everyday kitty to glamour puss.” The Cat Kit contains two bronzers, four eye shadows, one blush, and, three face-brightening lip-glosses. The Cat Kit is a personal favorite of the creators because “the colors are perfect for nearly all types and you really just can’t go wrong with it,” she says. Hickland’s other products include various accessory brushes, pencils, lotions and more.
This multi-talented actress and singer lives in Manhattan with her husband Michael E. Knight (who plays Tad on ABC’s All My Children), their two dogs, a miniature pinscher ‘Boo Boo’, ‘Chick’, their Chihuahua and six cats, ‘Cat Loaf’ (a Maine Coon), ‘Spotikus’ (an Ocicat), ‘Murphy’ (a Siamese), ‘Peanut’ (an Abyssinian), and ‘Mavis’ and ‘Binky’ (two mutts!). All of Hickland’s pets’ have been rescued from animal shelters and the actress admits to wanting every animal she lays eyes on; she jokes, “There must be a twelve-step program for people like me!”
