Sit! Stay! Please….

Training a dog is probably the most difficult thing to do. In fact some people dread this part. Who wants to yell at or punish their precious puppy because they couldn’t make it to the “bathroom” in time, or for not realizing that your favorite shoes are not chew toys? The truth is that they all make mistakes just like we do and this is why you train them, so that they learn. However some dog breeds are better at learning and easier to train than others.  Let’s go over 10 of the toughest dog breeds to train.

  1. Bloodhound

Bloodhounds are particularly difficult to train because they follow their noses. Their first instinct is to follow a scent once they’ve caught onto it, which makes them great hunting dogs, but difficult to control when you want them to sit or stay instead of sniff. Training a bloodhound requires a lot of patience.

  1. German Shepherd

These dogs have plenty of energy and love to go around and although they are very intelligent they are not the best when it comes to being trained. It’s not impossible however it may take a lot more time than you have on your hands to actually train them properly. Sorry!!

  1. Siberian Husky

Siberian Huskies are very intelligent and dedicated animals. They have always been known for pulling sleds in the coldest temperatures in tons of snow which all goes to show that this breed can truly be great! However it just takes a bit of work to get them there. These animals cannot be trained overnight. It takes a bit of dedication on your part but it can be well worth it!

  1. Dalmatian

Dalmatians are a smart breed, but very energetic. They need a lot of supervision until properly trained. But they are a wonderful breed and it is definitely worth the struggle!

  1. Alaskan Malamute

This particular breed is pretty active and pretty savvy when it comes to escaping confinement. Therefore unless you’re an experienced dog owner or experienced in dog training, this dog may not be ideal for you. A bit more experience definitely necessary.

  1. Bulldog

Although they may look mean and difficult Bulldogs are very sweet. In fact the reason they are so difficult to train is because they are sensitive to stress. They’re sweet and soft underneath that wrinkly exterior. These dogs need love, dedication, and patience. You give them that and you could have the most well behaved bulldog in your neighborhood!

  1. Rottweiler

This particular breed has a lot of strength, energy, and overall potential however that can only happen with a certain amount of dedication as a committed owner/trainer. This breed is not born the perfect pet but with your help it can definitely get there in no time!!

  1. Chinese Shar-pei

This breed can be very stubborn and territorial. That alone can make for a very difficult training session. But like all the others dedication will do the trick… hopefully.

Yes, we admit it. Pugs are adorable. But they are also notoriously stubborn and snobbish. It is likely that when you tell your pug to sit or come over it will be returned with an adorable, yet frustrating, smirk. “Who do you think you are human?” is what we see on a pug’s face more often than not.

  1. Beagle

So mush energy and such a small attention span. Beagles are just as sweet and loving as the next breed however they are very poor listeners. Like Bloodhounds, they follow their noses. Just think of them as toddlers and you’re already one step ahead!

No matter the difficulty these beautiful breeds bring along they are truly worth the trouble. All they want is your love and patience and in turn they’ll give you their loyalty and unconditional love forever.

HOW TO ADOPT!!

If this article has convinced you to step up to the wonderful challenge, adopt one of these lovable animals here is some information you may find helpful. The ASPCA (The American Society for the Preventing of Cruelty to Animals) is a great place to adopt. All of the animals have their shots along with a clean bill of health. Most of the dogs are looking for great families to be apart of, a family that loves them.
