Animal Advocate Matthew McConaughey Barking At The Golden Globes Tonight!
Don’t miss Matthew McConaughey tonight at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, he’s nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama! McConaughey practiced method acting and dropped 40 lbs by eating small amounts of food when preparing for his role in Dallas Buyers Club. McConaughey plays Ron Woodruff, a rodeo cowboy who becomes an Aids patient that smuggles unapproved pharmaceutical drugs into Texas when he finds them effective at improving his symptoms.
McConaughey received the 2014 Achievement Award for his role in Dallas Buyers Club at the Palm Springs International Film Festival gala on Saturday, Jan. 4. He thanked his family, wife Camila Alves and their three young children; Levi, 5, daughter Vida, 3, and Livingston, 12 months. McConaughey warmly commented, “I’d like to thank my own family, who was incredibly encouraging at 5 a.m. out the door in the morning in the dark. I know I wasn’t that easy to live with at that time. You never let me know that, I appreciate it.”
Other members of McConaughey’s family include his two dogs; BJ and Foxy. He’s a huge animal lover and advocate. A few years ago Matthew didn’t hesitate to stop two boys in California trying to light a cat on fire; he pulled over, yelled at the boys, and took the cat to a shelter.
McConaughey actively works with animals and is committed to their welfare. He supports the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, and Growing Up With Pets, a campaign which provides information for families looking to build strong and healthy relationships with their pets. He helped rescue 50 dogs, 18 cats, and 2 hamsters during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. What a great guy!
