Hope you can support the biggest dog park in the world and catch the fabulous Wendy and Lucky Diamond judging BEST IN SHOW!
Calling all dog lovers! Central Park PAWS 9th annual MY DOG LOVES CENTRAL PARK COUNTRY FAIR is this Saturday September 24th ! The fun beings at 11:00 AM and continues until 3:00 PM at the Bandshell, right smack in the middle of Central Park.
Dogs, dogs and MORE dogs! Last year, we counted about 8000 attendees at the FAIR but we lost count of the dogs. They were absolutely everywhere – some big and some small, lots of furry ones and even some bald ones! White dogs, brown dogs, spotted dogs, and a couple of pink dogs too! Dogs wearing tutus, dogs in tuxedos, dogs riding in carriages, dogs dressed like Christmas trees, even a beagle in full astronaut attire – and, of course, dogs barking!!! If you love dogs – this is the event of the year for you!!
PAWS President, Susan Buckley, and Fair Chairperson Dennis Buonagura report that the success of last year’s ON STAGE contests and presentations “led us to enhance this feature with even more opportunities for dogs and their people to come up on the stage and strut their stuff. Great prizes for contest winners too! We’ve even created a Top Training Tips Tent where some of New York’s well-know trainers will offer advice and demonstrations on how to help your dog become a responsible Central Park visitor.” ON STAGE hosts contests such as Biggest Lap Dog, Best Kisser and various costume competitions. Our terrific emcee, Jeremy Johnson, will host all ON STAGE activities once again. This year’s contest categories have yet to be finalized – so, if you have any suggestions, we’d love to hear them!
The Best in Park Dog Show will again be a huge attraction at the Fair, with a series of competitions in the center ring, culminating with the selection of the winner of the 2011 Best in Park. The Best in Park Dog Show is coordinated by expert dog trainer David Muriello and his team from Biscuits and Bath. Past winners will be on hand to present the prize to the Park’s “top dog.” The celebrity judges include Prince Lorenzo Borghese (animal advocate, star of the reality TV series THE BACHELOR, founder/President of Royal Treatment Italian Pet Spa products), Karen Biehl (star of NYC life’s reality series “Doggie Moms”, owner of Eli the Celebrity Chihuahua, committee member of NYC 4 ACC, supporter of animal charities and events) and Wendy Diamond (pet lifestyle guru, media personality and founder/editor of ANIMAL FAIR magazine). Can your dog be top dog? There’s still time to brush up on those obedience skills!!
Who knows? Your dog might want to participate in the Amazing Maze, or try her best on a fun agility course, or take the Canine Good Citizen test – or even attempt some doga positions! It’s all here at the MY DOG LOVES CENTRAL PARK COUNTRY FAIR. Several dog rescue groups will be on hand to offer details about adopting a new canine addition to your family; therapy assistance dog groups and guide dog organization will offer demonstrations and provide lots of information; and your dog can be micro chipped and register or renew his NYC dog license – all at the FAIR.
The oral history project, Tell Your Central Park Dog Story, was a great feature of last year’s FAIR and will be back again this year. In a secluded recording booth, dog owners tell of their memorable experiences with their dog in the Central Park. Be sure to stop by and tell YOUR story – which will remain a part of Central Park’s archives for years to come.
